How should I calculate the correct size BodenWärme heating kit?

To determine which kit size you need for your project, you should first calculate the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the length of the floor by the width. Once you have done this, you should then deduct any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will remove the risk of causing hot spots in your room. Once you have a total area minus the deductions, you should subtract a further 10% from your total as this will allow for spacing around the perimeter of the room and between mats.

Installation

• BodenWärme's heat mats are especially suited to large areas and standard-shaped rooms. For installation, simply roll out your mat and cut the rapid-fit sticky mesh backing and turn back in the opposite direction as required. With each mat comprising wire only 3.6mm thick, they are long-lasting and incredibly resilient to minimise the increase in the overall floor height of your room. For additional simplicity, unlike carbon film systems, the dual-core wire has a single connection point.

Please note:

• Heat mats cannot have excess cut off at the end or be shortened. Unfortunately, once they have been trimmed/cut, you cannot return them.
• The maximum total size of 150w/m² BodenWärme underfloor heating mats that a single thermostat can control is 20m². If you need to cover an area greater than 20m², the area should be divided into separate zones and controlled using multiple thermostats.
• As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
• The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD) to prevent electric shock. This can be positioned via a dedicated fused spur or within the consumer unit.
• You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not surpass the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
