If installed within a well-insulated room, BodenWärme's 200w discreet heating mats can be used as a primary heat source. This means no need for radiators, which can take up much needed wall space and often stand out in more modern interiors. To improve the energy efficiency of your room, heat mats can be laid over underfloor heating insulation boards (6mm or 10mm thick), which will result in faster heat-up time and a reduction in the amount of heat loss through uninsulated floors.

How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

To calculate which kit size is right for your project, you need to first work out the area of the entire floor space by multiplying the width of the floor by the length. Once this is done, you should then deduct any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eliminate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. Once you have a total area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between mats and around the perimeter of the room.

Installation

• BodenWärme's heat mats are particularly suited to standard-shaped rooms and large areas. To install, simply roll out your mat and cut the rapid-fit sticky mesh backing and turn back in the opposite direction as needed. With each mat consisting of wires only 3.6mm, these extremely durable and long-lasting mats minimise the increase in the overall floor height of your room. For added simplicity, the dual-core wire has a single connection point.

Please note:

• Heat mats cannot be shortened or have excess cut off at the end. Unfortunately, once the mats have been cut/trimmed, you cannot return them.
• The maximum total size of 200w/m² BodenWärme underfloor heating mats that a single thermostat can control is 16m². Should you require to cover an area greater than 16m², the area should be divided into separate zones and controlled via multiple thermostats.
• As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
• The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD), protecting against electric shock. This can be situated within the consumer unit or via a dedicated fused spur.
• You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not exceed the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp, and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
